・Hatsu:
The sleeve length in Outfit 1 (main outfit) is long like a furisode and not like in the 3D model. The long kimono sleeve is important to her design!
Outfit 2 is only worn post-Endwalker.
Her charm points are her large round, slightly down-turned eyes, blush, downturned fin-like Au Ra horns, and emotions that can be easily read by her tail movements even if she doesn't show it on her face. She has a younger appearance with delicate features and leans toward cute rather than sexy. If you find it difficult to draw the body scales, feel free to not draw them but please always draw her face scales, horns, and tail! Her eyes are red.
She has an innocent and cute, priestess-like appearance which she and Hancock use to their advantage. Because of her cute face, it catches others off guard when she is the one who does all the dirty work. Although she blushes easily, her expressions are usually small and reserved and maintains delicate mannerisms to keep up the appearances of what she believes befitting of a hero that is "pure" due to the pressure of bearing the title of "Warrior of Light", only letting herself really smile when she is with people she feels close to. She can be opportunistic, industrious, and bratty, always wanting compensation for her work, but deep down, she has a hard time ignoring pleas for help.
The closer the relationship, the more she naturally shows a gentle, patient, and attentive side that is truly pure and sweet.
・Hancock:
He wears opaque round sunglasses in public places and at work. Please keep or remove them when appropriate. If in doubt, a version with and without sunglasses is greatly appreciated! His eyes are purple.
He is generally smiling or grinning widely no matter the situation, always hiding his true intentions. Charm points are his short eyebrows, dark under-eye area, and thin lips. However, if the dark under-eye area are not typically depicted in your art style, feel free to skip it! He is also not physically strong and has a slim build so please refrain from poses depicting him picking up Hatsu despite their height difference. Please pay attention to his hair style, the stripe directions on the haori sleeves, and the shape of the sleeves as they are not bell-shaped nor like the sleeves of western clothes.
A highly intelligent, cunning, and manipulative merchant and collector of Far Eastern antiques. He often appears shady and inscrutable. While he is pragmatic and down-to-earth, he also tries to look at the silver lining in any situation. Gap moe. On the surface, he is outgoing and silly with a dark sense of humor but underneath, he keeps people at a distance rarely opening up to anyone, serious and introspective, seems to care about how he is perceived by others despite trying to act otherwise, and has a side of himself that is slightly pathetic (positive) when put in situations where he is out of his element. He does not have the ability to fight but instead, uses his connections to carry out espionage work.
The closer the relationship, the more he shows a vulnerable side that wants to be needed and accepted. Skilled at reading people, he is also observant and can be attentive.
Personal reading
(This is not to impose my interpretation of his character on anyone but to better help understand his dynamics for this specific relationship.)
My interpretation of Hancock is that due to his background, he has only ever relied on himself and needed to climb his way out of poverty on his own. While Lolorito provided the means to support himself, I don't believe Hancock has ever had emotional support nor the safety or security of family. The sunglasses he wears serves two main purposes: to make his emotions undiscernible during business deals and to put distance between himself and others as a form of self preservation. He is resistant to forming relationships based on nebulous feelings such as "love" and grew up in an environment where it is more reliable to curry favor in order to keep someone around as long as needed. However, his vulnerability at the end of the Mount Rokkon quests can be seen as a bid for connection and marks a major turning point in their relationship.
・Relationship:
Hancock is tasked to assist the Warrior of Light during her time in Doma, maintain a watchful eye on her activities, and to uncover her family's involvement with Eshtaime's Lapidaries and a Little Ladies' Day incident. To that end, he becomes her information broker to get closer to her and spends more time with her than expected. He has never loved before meeting her and because he doesn't understand "love", they have a relationship based on exchanging favors. Overtime, they discover camaraderie through their similarities and mutual interests. They keep their budding relationship a secret from Lolorito and the Scions.
At first, they enter a secret relationship with only self-interest in mind but as Hancock attempts to dig up Hatsu's past to complete his dossier, they discover secrets about each other that would change their relationship forever, putting themselves in each other's debt far too great to ever pay back.
While Hancock is charming, suave, and the dominant one in the relationship, he gets flustered and unsure of what to do when the affection is reciprocated until late in the relationship.
The two have a give-and-take relationship for years until Hancock sees that the support is constant. The support extends deeper than this as Hatsu's story coincidentally comes full circle to touch on themes of homelessness, the experience of not belonging to one place or another, and the purpose of wealth. It is a setup of a healing relationship that neither of them realized for a long time and eventually, their sweeter and vulnerable sides come out when alone with each other.
A trope that describes them would be "Red Oni, Blue Oni", with Hatsu appearing gentle and cute but is more aggressive and unpredictable in her negotiations. She is the type to take bold risks to put the pressure on her rivals. On the other hand, Hancock appears shady and suspicious but is the calmer and more logical one. Hancock only takes calculated risks he is sure he can win. While the two appear to only care about themselves, Hatsu would risk everything to protect Hancock and Hancock would go through great lengths to create situations to ensure that they win. The two are something like "partners in crime" or "aibou" and always have each other's backs.
For omakase or communication-less commissions, my favorite themes include cute daily life scenes, dark and dangerous black market dealings, and supernatural Japanese horror.
