Although Hatsu was born in Yanxia, her family escaped the Garlean invasion when she was only an infant and was raised in the outskirts of Ul'dah. Safer to pose as traveling merchants, they took new names and offered their wares to the wealthy. Hatsu specialized in restoring antique jewelry and often needed Tataru's knowledge in the lapidary arts, thus becoming business partners and childhood friends.

After the Battle of Carteneu, memories of her current life were clouded by previous ones and was often confused about what is past and what is present. She refused to accept her responsibilities as a Warrior of Light and ran from them for as long as she could, instead, compelled to chase a past only she remembers. Much like her Ascian brethren, a feeling there is something more tugs at her heart -- a yearning for the past, the regret of a broken promise, a desperation to return home -- it fueled her every action.

Never having known Doma and with no place to belong, she hoped that by traveling all over the world, she might find the answer she was looking for. Hatsu felt pressure to act like the hero everyone expected but due to her own selfish desires, she often isolated herself from the Scions until...
